MEDNISOL INJECTION

MEDNISOL INJECTION Methylprednisolone sodium succinate  injections
Composition : Each ml (when mixed as directed) contains methylprednisolone sodium succinate equivalent to 40 mg methylprednisolone.
Each 2 ml (when mixed as directed) contains methylprednisolone sodium succinate equivalent to 125 mg methylprednisolone.
Each 8 mL (when mixed as directed) contains methylprednisolone sodium succinate equivalent to 500 mg methylprednisolone
Each 16 mL (when mixed as directed) contains methylprednisolone sodium succinate equivalent to 1 g methylprednisolone.
Indications : It is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, severe allergic reactions, certain cancers, eye conditions, skin/kidney/intestinal/lung diseases, and immune system disorders. It decreases immune system's response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling, pain, and allergic-type reactions. Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid hormone. This injectable form of methylprednisolone is used when a similar drug cannot be taken by mouth or when a very fast response is needed, especially in patients with severe medical conditions. 
Contraindications : It is contraindicated in systemic fungal infections and patients with known hypersensitivity to the product and its constituents.
Adverse Effects : Nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping, appetite changes, increased sweating, acne, or pain/redness/swelling at the injection site may occur.
Dosage : As adjunctive therapy in life threatening conditions (e.g. shock states) the recommended dose of Methylprednisolone is 30 milligrams per kg of methylprednisolone sodium succinate, given IV over a period of at least 30 minutes. This dose may be repeated every 4 to 6 hours for up to 48 hours.
Suggested schedules -
• Rheumatic disorders: 1 gm/day for one, two, three or four days IV or 1 gm/month for six months IV.
• Systemic lupus erythematosus: 1 gm/day for three days IV.
• Multiple sclerosis: 1 gm/day for three days IV or 1 gm/day for five days IV.
• Oedematous states e.g. glomerulonephritis, lupus nephritis: 30 mg/kg every other day for four days IV or 1 gm/day for three, five or seven days IV.
