DURAXON-S INJECTION Cefoperazone sodium 500 mg & Sulbactam sodium 500 mg for injection
Composition : Each vial contains: Cefoperazone Sodium equivalent to 500 mg Cefoperazone with Sulbactam Sodium equivalent to 500 mg Sulbactam.
Indications : For the treatment of the following infections when caused by susceptible organisms:
  • Respiratory & urinary tract infections (upper and lower)
  • Peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, and other intra abdominal infections
  • Septicaemia
  • Meningitis
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhoea, and other infections of the genital tract
Contraindications : In patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics. In patients hypersensitive to penicillin, consider the possibility of allergic cross-reactions. The use of SULBACTAM is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to any of the penicillins.
Adverse Effects :
  • A reaction characterized by flushing, sweating, headache and tachycardia has been reported when alcohol was ingested during and as late as the fifth day after Cefoperazone administration.
  • A similar reaction has been reported with certain other cephalosporins and patients should be cautioned concerning ingestion of alcoholic beverages in conjunction with administration of SULBACTAM /Cefoperazone.
Dosage :
  • Adults: 1 to 2 gm I.M. or I.V. twice daily 
  • In severe infections: 3 to 4 gm I.M. or I.V. thrice daily
  • Maximum adult dose: 8gm/day. 
  • Children: 40 to 80 mg / kg / day two times daily to four times daily
  • Maximum child dose: 160 mg / kg / day
