AZIMED I.V. INJECTION Azithromycin 500 mg Injections
Composition : Each vial contains 500 mg of Azithromycin (equivalent to 524.03 mg of Azithromycin dihydrate), which after reconstitution results in a 100 mg/ml Azithromycin solution. The concentrate should be further diluted to 1 mg/ml or 2 mg/ml.
Indications : Azimed as powder for solution for infusion is indicated for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia due to susceptible microorganisms, (see Section 5.1) in adult patients where initial intravenous therapy is required. Azithromycin as powder for solution for infusion is indicated for the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) due to susceptible microorganisms, in patients where initial intravenous therapy is required.
Contraindications : In patients with allergy to Azithromycin, Erythromycin or any of the macrolide or ketolide antibiotics, or to any of its excipients.
Adverse Effects : Candidiasis, oral candidiasis, vaginal infection, Diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, flatulence, Vomiting, dyspepsia, Gastritis, constipation, Pancreatitis, tongue discoloration.
Dosage : The recommended dose of Azimed I.V. in community-acquired pneumonia is of 500 mg administered as a single intravenous daily dose for at least two consecutive days. The intravenous therapy should be followed by the oral administration of Azithromycin in a single daily dose of 500 mg up to 7 to 10 days of treatment.
The recommended dose of Azimed I.V. in pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is of 500 mg administered as a single intravenous daily dose for one or two days. The intravenous therapy should be followed by the oral administration of Azithromycin in a single daily dose of 250 mg up to 7 days of treatment.
